Photo Shop Edit #2

My parents live in Morgan. This is a picture I took of the peacock in their corral.

I cleaned up some of the boards, removed some rocks and the hose.

I used the clone stamp and the marquee tool to remove the unwanted items. I used the dodge tool to lighten the dirt near the barn wall. I used the crop tool to better center the peacock and remove the bright white of the barn walls.

Photo Shop Edit #1

My brother decided to try on our Mommy's leopard print Snuggie...

I decided to make his Snuggie slightly more manly... :)

I used multiple layers, color adjustments through hue saturation, transformations, multiple blur tools, magnetic selection, and the eraser tool to complete this edit.

Resume Building

Going over what makes a good resume is always a good refresher. The article “How to Avoid Common Resume Mistakes” was really interesting. I liked how the author broke it down into smaller categories. The separation in this article made it easy to follow and easy to quickly reuse again later. This article had an interesting outlook on why/why not to include references on your resume. I liked their reasoning I think it made sense.

The article on Resume 2.0 was absolutely fascinating. I am really excited about the possibilities for my resume. I am glad that in JCOM 2160 we will be making 2.0 resumes. I have already started mine. I have most of my activities linked. I can’t wait to get it online.

Reading One

Netiquette

I definitely think everyone that ever wants to use the internet in any way should be forced to read “The Core Rules of Netiquette” article. This article touched on so many of the netiquette problems I encounter on the internet every day. I would actually support the full book becoming a required reading for every university and high school in the world. Netiquette is so important yet too often overlooked. I really liked their guideline to “Remember the Human.” I think part of the reason people are so rude on the internet is because they will never see the person they are being so rude too, and the fact that the person will never even know who was rude. They might even live next door to each other and not know because of ridiculous screen names. These readings made me think that a good way to remove some of the netiquette problems is to get rid of screen names and force people to post their real names with their comments so there is more accountability for the terrible things they say online. I think this added measure of accountability would help some really rude people think twice before posting.

Online Reputation Memo

MEMORANDUM
TO: Jeff Skidmore
FROM: Jill Little
DATE: December 8, 2009
SUBJECT: Online Reputations

Jeffery D. Skidmore Online Reputation

When I Google searched you, Jeffrey D. Skidmore the first link was to your blog the Draft Press Release 2: Image Management post. The second was your blog again, this time your Day 9 post about eating healthier and losing weight came up. I do not really understand why these two posts came up first before any of your other posts from your blog, but these two posts is what the world is seeing first about you.

After typing in Jeffrey D. Skidmore Utah State University I was able to locate your LinkedIn profile as the third link from the top of the first page. All I really found out from this was that you have made one connection on LinkedIn. Because I already knew you were a Public Relations Student at Utah State University, your viewable profile also had your expected graduation date at 2010.

Jeffrey D. Skidmore Utah State University also brought me to your Hard News CafĂ© article “Dents and dings worth the raw fun of rugby, players say” twice; making you the third, fourth, and fifth link under this search title.

When I searched for Jeffrey D. Skidmore Public Relations your blog post Draft Press Release 2: Image Management came up first on the list, and your LinkedIn profile was the third link available.

I would say that all of your online reputation is positive. One suggestion I would have for you is to update and really use you LinkedIn profile because it seems to come up regularly and it is a good place to store useful information about you for potential employers since they will already have multiple examples of your writing abilities.

2300 Thoughts

Look Who’s Talking…

I think the Seattle Sounders FC is doing a fantastic job with public relations. They have over 20,000 season ticket holders and always pack Quest Field for Sounders FC games. The thing that Seattle Sounders FC is doing in public relations that I think is really smart is their use of well educated, intelligently placed spokes people.

Seattle Sounders FC can boast an elaborate array of “celebrity” spokes people including:
Franchise owner: Drew Carey
Team Captain and former United States National Team Goal Keeper: Kasey Keller
Former Arsenal FC and Swedish National team star: Freddy Ljungberg
Major League Soccer All Star: Freddy Montero
Team Manager (head coach): Sigi Schmid

All of Seattle Sounders FC’s spokes people have great credibility and have launched campaigns for Major League Soccer and for the Seattle Sounders FC. These campaigns are doing more than fighting for their individual causes; they are spreading the branding of the Seattle Sounders FC and Major League Soccer.

Drew Carey appeals to people who may not have ever watched soccer before, but now are becoming slightly more interested, if only to find out what that funny guy is talking about now. I think his reach is going much farther toward the non soccer fan or even the casual soccer fan. He has done wonders for getting the less than dedicated soccer watchers to attend games and buy merchandise.

Kasey Keller is helping to get support and respect from long time United States National team fans. Seattle Sounders FC is a Major League Soccer expansion team. Typical expansion teams do not receive much respect, but having a legend like Keller between the pipes has really helped the Seattle Sounders FC get off the ground in Major League Soccer.

Freddy Ljungberg is an international football icon. Through his stardom with Arsenal and the Swedish National Team Ljungberg is bringing international attention to Major League Soccer. His reach is with the incredibly dedicated soccer fans from overseas that are suddenly interested in how he is doing in his new league. He is helping Major League Soccer to gain international respect.

The reason I think Seattle Sounders FC is doing such a good job with their public relations campaign is the fact that it does not look like a public relations campaign to most people. They made diverse selections that are hitting multiple publics at the same time. Keller inside the United States, Ljungberg in Europe, Montero in South America, Carey to the non soccer publics, and Schmid to the administrative levels in Major League Soccer. Great public relations planning and execution by Seattle Sounders FC.
